About Me

Hi! I'm Charles Tabasso, a teacher, writer, and bouldering-enthusiast.

I have 8 years of experience in New York City public schools, working with high schoolers across a wide range of subjects, including IB/AP Biology, ELA, Spanish, Personal Finance, and Theory of Knowledge (TOK).

My skillset also includes Special-Ed and ICT (Integrated Classroom Teaching) training, so I have a lot of experience adapting my approach to different kinds of learning styles. In practice, that often means building custom materials like worksheets, graphic organizers, hands-on activities, and other tools, tailored to each student’s pace.


I focus on tutoring from a curiosity-driven perspective, as that’s a great motivator for students to develop and strengthen their own process of finding solutions too. I believe every subject connects to each other in surprising ways, and I love using my classroom to reveal the connective tissue between concepts and disciplines.

Teaching Philosophy

  • Learning begins with a good question.

Curiosity is a great compass, so I use leading questions to spark inquiry, then follow them with inference and information. Where the answer takes us from there becomes an opportunity to dig deeper into why/what the right answer actually is.

  • Every wrong answer has something to teach.

In my classrooms, incorrect answers aren't ‘wrong’ dead-ends, but rather springboards for broader discussion and additional research.

  • Language is the skeleton key.

Drawing on my languages background, I break down complex terminology into its roots, making even the most intimidating jargon and vocabulary approachable and memorable.

  • The mundane is anything but!

I believe even the driest corner of any curriculum has a natural connection to something fascinating, and that’s what improves recall, and makes studying easier.

  • Enthusiasm is contagious.

I bring genuine, organic eagerness to every lesson, not because it's a technique, but because I actually find this stuff exciting (yeah, I know!) and I want students to feel the same way.

  • Tailored, but never templated.

Everyone learns differently. Adapting my materials and approach to meet each student where they are, is one of my favorite challenges of my job.
